Decisions
Ban, temp ban or acquit right under the report, with alt account detection, Roblox rules for the public reason, presets and cross-game bans.

Every report ends with one of three decisions: a permanent ban, a temporary ban or an acquittal. Bans are sent to Roblox through the Open Cloud ban API and take effect in the game within moments. You can also ban or warn a player without a report.
Where you decide
- In Discord: the buttons under the report card. Ban opens a short form, Acquit asks for an optional note.
- In the dashboard: open the report, look at the evidence in full size and decide on the right side.
- Review mode: Review open reports on the overview shows one report at a time with the clip playing, so a team can work through a queue quickly.
- Without a report:
/ban,/unbanand the Ban button on a player page.
Only members with a moderator or admin role can decide. See Team and permissions.
Ban a player
- Click Ban under the card or on the report page.
Fill in the form:
- Reason preset (optional): fills in type, duration and reason from a saved preset.
- Type of ban: permanent or temporary.
- Duration: only for temporary bans. Write
12h,3d,7d,2wor combinations like1d12h. Minimum one second, maximum 10,000 years, whole seconds. - Reason for the player: the text Roblox shows to the player. Required, at most 400 characters, see the rules below.
- Internal note: only your team sees it. At most 1000 characters.
- Alt accounts: whether Roblox also bans suspected alt accounts. On by default.
- Game: if the server has several games, pick one or keep All games.
- Confirm. The dashboard shows a confirmation dialog with the exact text the player will see.
What happens then:
- The punishment is saved and shown in the player's priors.
- For every game it covers, Modhelm sends the ban to Roblox. The card shows the sync state per game ("synced", "waiting", "failed").
- The card is updated with the decision, who made it and when. The buttons are disabled except for the dashboard link.
- The log channel gets an entry.
- The reporter gets a direct message that action was taken, without details about the punishment.
- If the banned player has linked their Discord account through verification, they get a direct message with the reason, the duration and the date from which they can request an unban.
Rules for the public reason
Roblox shows the reason to the player in a dialog when they try to join. Roblox filters this text and has rules for it:
- No links. Not even to your Discord server or your social accounts. "Visit the Discord linked on our game page" is fine.
- No usernames or handles. Do not name the reporter or anyone else.
- No personal information.
- At most 400 characters.
Modhelm rejects reasons that contain a link or a username before they reach Roblox. Put details, names and links into the internal note instead. It is never sent to the player.
Good: Banned for exploiting: using cheats or scripts to get an unfair advantage. Appeals are possible after 30 days through the link on our game page.
Not allowed: Reported by CoolGuy123, see discord.gg/example
Alt accounts
Roblox detects accounts that probably belong to the same person and, by default, extends your ban to them. This is the Alt accounts option in the form. Turn it off for borderline cases where you only want to hit one account. The detection criteria are Roblox's own and are not published.
Temporary bans
A temporary ban ends on its own. Roblox lifts it at the end of the duration, and Modhelm marks the punishment as expired a few minutes later. The player then shows no active punishment, but the ban stays in the priors.
Acquit
Click Acquit and optionally write a note for your team. The report is closed without a punishment. The reporter is told that no action was taken, without your note. Acquitted reports are deleted automatically 180 days after the decision.
Warn
On a player page, the Ban button also offers Warn player. A warning is saved in the history and counts as a prior, but nothing is sent to Roblox.
Ban reason presets
Presets save typing and keep reasons consistent. Each preset has a name, the public reason, an optional internal note, a default type and a default duration. Modhelm starts you with five: Exploiting (permanent), Harassment (7 days), Scamming (30 days), Inappropriate content (3 days) and Alt account evasion (permanent). You can edit, reorder or delete them in the dashboard. Presets appear in the Discord ban form, in the dashboard and in review mode.
Cross-game bans with game groups
If you moderate several games, maybe on several servers, you can ban a player in all of them at once.
- Open Game groups in the user menu at the top of the dashboard. Create a group with a name and pick games from every server where you are a moderator or admin.
- When you ban, tick Also ban in other games and choose All games I have access to, one of your groups or single games. In the Discord form this is the Also ban in selection.
Each target server gets its own punishment with its own history and audit entry, sent with that server's API key. Reports and evidence are not copied. The other server only sees the reason, the duration, who banned and "Taken over from server X (report #12)". Your permissions are checked on every server at the moment of the ban. Lifting the ban on one server only affects that server, unless you choose Lift everywhere.
Change a decision
Admins can change a decision after the fact: open the report and choose Change decision, or press Ban on an already decided card. If the earlier decision was a ban, the old punishment is revoked and a new one is created. Everything is recorded in the audit log.
Unban
- Discord:
/unban roblox:<name> reason:<text>. - Dashboard: Unban on the player page or on the ban.
- Accepting an unban request also unbans. See Unban requests.
Roblox lifts the ban in every game it covered. The reason is saved in the history, never shown to the player.
/ban roblox:Builderman duration:7d reason:Banned for harassing other players in voice chat. game:Train Boss alts:True
/unban roblox:Builderman reason:Appeal accepted after talk with the playerWhen a ban does not reach Roblox
The card shows "failed" for a game and the log channel explains why: the key was rejected, the key may not ban in this game, Roblox does not know the game, or Roblox is busy. Fix the key under Games and the pending change is retried. Details are in Troubleshooting.
